When the city of Albany, New York decided to renovate and redevelop the existing Lincoln Park Pool, Waterplay was brought onto the project to provide fun splash pad features for the newly refurbished facility. Originally built in the 1930s, the Lincoln Park Pool is a historic landmark that has been serving the community for decades. As the aging facility deteriorated to the point where it was experiencing significant water leakage, the City of Albany decided to invest the funds to redevelop and renovate the site so it can continue to serve the community for generations to come.

Together with the City of Albany, Weston & Sampson, Jersen Construction Group, and Great Lakes Recreation, Waterplay provided a large assortment of thrilling and exciting splash pad features to transform the new Lincoln Park Pool into a destination attraction that can be enjoyed by everyone!

The brand-new Lincoln Park Pool officially opened in July 2025.

The Challenge

A landmark in the community since the 1930s, the Lincoln Park Pool has provided aquatic fun to residents of Albany since the Great Depression. Designed as a model municipal pool with a unique circular design and zero-depth entry, the pool has taught over 60,000 kids to swim in its lifetime. Located within Lincoln Park, the pool was originally designed to provide a safer alternative to a nearby natural swimming hole and was known for incorporating sand to mimic a beach-like environment. Lincoln Park Pool is listed on both the New York State Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places, solidifying the facility as an important landmark in both the city of Albany, as well as the state of New York.

When the original pool was demolished due to issues with water leaks, it was determined that the existing facility would be replaced with a brand new 72,000-square-foot aquatic facility, while the historic bathhouse would be restored. The City of Albany held public meetings and engaged with residents to gather insights and information on the pool’s design and features. It was determined that the new facility would include a zero-depth entry activity pool, a half-size Olympic lap pool, a splash pad, a two-flume waterslide, and a new bathhouse.

Carrying the zero-depth entry design through to the new swimming pool and adding a ramp into the lap pool helps to promote accessibility and inclusivity by providing easy access for anyone visiting the Lincoln Park Pool facility.

The Solution

Waterplay’s expert Design and Specification team worked closely with project designers, Weston & Sampson, to select appropriate features for the accessible areas of the facility. When choosing features for such a large space, it’s important to ensure that your selections include something for everyone, so all who visit the facility can partake in the fun!

Smaller, gentle water features like ground spraysFun-Brella, Snapper 2, Slosh 1, and Aqua-Juggle are great features for smaller Waterplayers wanting to explore the ways water moves but don’t necessarily want intense, big splashes. A Speedracer titan, Aqualume Soaker 5, and Twist ‘N Spill 2 deliver splashes from above while the custom Duplex Soaker is arguably the splashiest feature of Lincoln Park Pool, providing massive splashes and endless thrills!

Jam-packed with all sorts of splashy features, the splash pad and water features in the zero-depth pool provide endless hours of fun for Waterplayers of all ages and all abilities, creating an aquatic destination that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The Implementation

When it came to the install of the splash pad features at Lincoln Park Pool, the entire process went off without a hitch. Norberto Pools was an amazing installation partner who was quick to alert the Waterplay team when challenges arose, allowing Waterplay to respond in a timely manner to keep the installation schedule on track. Members of the Waterplay team travelled to visit the site, along with Waterplay dealer Great Lakes Recreation to provide additional training and ensure that the features were in working order. Waterplay Director of Customer Support, Stephen Nettleton, traveled to the site to provide start-up training on the water management system controller, along with Lisa d’EntremontWaterplay Regional Sales Manager, who said that the Lincoln Park Pool is one of the most stunning projects she has ever worked on

The Outcome

The redeveloped and renovated Lincoln Park Pool is a stunning aquatic facility that not only maintains the historical significance of the venue but has increased accessibility and access for all. Packed full of thrilling, splashy features, the new pools and splash pad provide endless hours of entertainment for members of the community, and now that the original water loss issue has been solved, Lincoln Park Pool has allowed the City of Albany to offer residents a more sustainable aquatic area that will continue to delight generations for years to come.

Waterplay was thrilled to be involved in such a spectacular project and loved having the opportunity to build new relationships with the contractors, designers, and the city of Albany.
