Free Play in a Controlled World

Date: Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at 11 AM PDT / 2 PM EDT

Taking risks can be fun!

We know that risky play can help increase self-esteem, decrease conflict sensitivity, and help with problem-solving skills. But what does risky play look like in an aquatic environment? And how can we incorporate risky play into these spaces while also keeping children safe?

Together, we’ll explore these topics and determine a road map for the construction of liberating, multi-dimensional aquatic play environments.

How Play and Curiousity Connect

Date: Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 at 11 AM PDT / 2 PM EDT

Nurturing & Incorporating Curiosity in Play.

Children are naturally curious, so our most important job is to nurture that curiosity and integrate these learning processes into our aquatic play spaces.

Join us for an engaging session where we’ll look at how instilling a sense of curiosity in children through innovative aquatic design can help them seek out new experiences and fully develop essential skills required for later academic achievement in the 21st century.

Inclusive Play

Date: Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST

Design for inclusivity.

Designing for inclusivity goes beyond ADA compliance. Individuals are still experiencing exclusion from traditional play experiences that can be – and should be – avoided. Inclusive play goes beyond getting wet on an aquatic play pad, it’s about the quality of the play experience that follows.

Broaden your understanding of inclusivity, its community benefits and how to simultaneously accommodate different play habits and styles so that everyone can play together in one space.

Importance of Failure in Play

Date: Thursday, November 6th, 2025 at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST

Create play spaces that push the boundaries.

Failure is an inevitable part of life. By creating play spaces that not only push the boundaries in thinking but also stretch the limitations of our bodies, we create safe places to explore our failures and learn great things about ourselves and our budding potential.

Join us as we explore failure and the deep-seated negative connotations that society tends to place on the topic, and what we could gain by encouraging failure at a young age, in a safe space, surrounded by possibility.

Universal Splash Pad Design

Date: Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST

Play is for everyone!

In today’s world, we strive to be as inclusive as possible by providing spaces and environments that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their walks of life. The 7 Principals of Universal Design, developed in 1979 by a professional group of designers, researchers, and engineers, are still applicable today and have become world-renowned in the design of any public space.

Strengthen your knowledge of these design principles and how they can be applied to aquatic environments to create rewarding experiences featuring flexible, intuitive, and approachable play for people of all ages and abilities.
